Privacy Policy

ClearNoise stores all your data locally on your computer. We do not have a server that collects, stores, or processes your invoices, clients, or financial information. The only times data leaves your device are when you actively send an email, validate a license key, or the App checks for updates. That's it.

The following data is created and stored exclusively on your computer in a local database file. We never see, access, or transmit this data:

- Invoices you create (content, amounts, dates, statuses)
- Client records (names, email addresses, physical addresses, VAT IDs)
- Invoice templates and block configurations
- Company/sender settings (your business name, address, bank details)
- Budget items and line items
- Workspace data and saved block libraries
- App preferences (theme, default currency, reminder settings)

This data exists only in a SQLite database file stored in the App's data folder on your device. If you delete this file or uninstall the App, the data is gone. We cannot recover it for you.

In specific situations, ClearNoise transmits limited data to external services. This only happens when you take an explicit action or when the App performs essential background functions.

When You Send an Invoice or Reminder Email:
When you click "Send" on an invoice or reminder, the following data is transmitted to Resend (our email delivery provider):

- Recipient email address (your client's email)
- Sender name and email (from your settings)
- CC email address (if you've set one in Settings)
- Email subject line and message body
- Invoice PDF as an attachment

Resend processes this data solely for the purpose of delivering the email. Resend's privacy policy applies to their handling of this data: https://resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.

When You Activate a License Key
When you enter a license key to activate ClearNoise Pro, the App sends the key to Lemon Squeezy to validate it. This request includes:

- The license key you entered
- Basic device information for activation tracking

When the App Checks for Updates
On launch, ClearNoise checks GitHub Releases for available updates. This request includes:
- Your current App version number
- Your operating system (macOS or Windows)

No personal data is transmitted during update checks.

When You Use a Non-EUR Currency
If you create an invoice in a currency other than EUR, the App requests the current exchange rate from the Frankfurter API (powered by the European Central Bank). This request includes:
- The currency code (e.g. "USD")
- The date for the exchange rate

No personal or business data is included in these requests.


When the App Generates a PDF
ClearNoise loads fonts from Google Fonts when generating invoice PDFs. This is a standard web font request that includes:
- The license key you entered
- Basic device information for activation tracking

We do not operate analytics, tracking, or telemetry in ClearNoise. We do not collect:
- Usage statistics or behavioral data
- Crash reports (unless you manually send us one)
- Device fingerprints or advertising identifiers
- Location data
- Keystroke or interaction data

The only way we learn about how you use ClearNoise is if you tell us directly — through the feedback form on our website or by emailing us.

When you purchase ClearNoise Pro, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes:
- Your name and email address
- Payment information (credit card or payment method)
- Billing address
- Transaction records

As Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy is the data controller for purchase-related data. They handle payment processing, VAT calculation, invoicing, and refunds. We receive:
- Confirmation that a license key was purchased and activated
- Your email address (for support purposes)
- Transaction amount and date

We do not receive or store your payment card details.

The ClearNoise desktop application does not use cookies, web beacons, or tracking pixels.

Our website (clearnoise.app) may use essential cookies for basic functionality. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers on our website.

Since your data lives on your device, you control its retention entirely. You can:ClearNoise connects to the following external services during normal use:
- Delete individual invoices or clients within the App
- Delete an entire workspace
- Export your data as CSV files at any time
- Uninstall the App and remove the data folder to delete everything

For purchase data held by Lemon Squeezy, their retention policies apply. We retain your email address for support correspondence only as long as necessary.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding any personal data we process:
- Access — You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Correction — You can ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Deletion — You can ask us to delete your personal data
- Portability — You can request your data in a portable format
- Objection — You can object to certain types of processing
- Restriction — You can request we limit how we use your data

In practice, because ClearNoise is local-first, the only personal data we may hold is your email address from a purchase or support conversation. For purchase-related data held by Lemon Squeezy, please contact them directly.

Your ClearNoise data is protected by your operating system's file permissions and any device-level encryption you use (such as FileVault on macOS or BitLocker on Windows). We recommend:
- Keeping your operating system and ClearNoise up to date
- Using full-disk encryption on your device
- Regularly exporting workspace backups

For data in transit (email sending, license validation, update checks), all connections use HTTPS encryption.

ClearNoise is a business tool designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

ClearNoise is operated from the Netherlands. The third-party services we use may process data outside the EEA:
- Resend — based in the United States
- GitHub — based in the United States
- Google Fonts — based in the United States
- Lemon Squeezy — based in the United States (Stripe subsidiary)
- Frankfurter API — hosted in the EU

Where data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by the service provider's data protection measures, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at clearnoise.app/privacy with the updated date. For significant changes, we will notify users through the App or via email where possible.
